Help me decide on a graphic card?
I decided to get a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT since my previous graphic card was incompatible. How can I tell if this graphic card can work for my ASUS P6T motherboard without trying it out after buying it. I've already wasted some money on the previous one, and I don't want this to happen again. The ASUS motherboard has 3 PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots. If this card doesn't work, do you have any suggestions?

Any video card that requires a PCI-E x16 or 2.0 slot will work on a motherboard that has a PCI-E x16 or 2.0 slot. Video cards are pretty simple in terms of motherboard compatibility.
Since you say that the motherboard has three PCI-E 2.0 slots, you are good to go!
I hope this helps!

Hello, If I were you, I would investigate the nVidia GeForce 200 series and above, I have two (2) GeForce 8800 Ultras(in SLi) on a XFX 780i SLi motherboard, the cards are about 2 1/2 years old and I can still play any game out on the market on High settings( Including Crysis ) and the only Video Card that even comes close to the 8800 ultras or surrpasses it is the nVidia 260GTX or above(I've included a link below to a really good one), make sure the card will work with the PCIe 2.0 and I would also think about going SLi if you play games.

Alrighty!.
Here is your motherboard's full description page
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=QtpKQuERkuYw...
This will tell you under the "Specifications" Tab
that you have 3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (at x16/x16/x4 mode)
((So avoid the very end PCI-e slot :) as its just x4.)
(So make sure you plug the graphics card into the closest PCI-e slot to your CPU, as that is PCI-e Slot 1 at x16 speeds=D .)
Or!
Is the 8800gt you brought a AGP graphics card...If it is....It will never work with that motherboard..because your motherboard only take's PCI-e Graphics card's.....
Try make sure that the graphics card you buy has a "PCI-e 2.0" Interface :)
OR you proble could be!
Your power supply!.............You will need atleast......A 400watt power supply with a 16amp 12volt rail to support your Graphics card.
HOPE THIS HELPS :+D

To ensure that your videocard is compatible all you need to do is ensure the slot type of the card matches a slot on your motherboard.
I.e for your motherboard, all PCI-e type cards will be compatible however AGP slot cards will not.

MY buddy those days offered COD5 and the Nvidia Geforce 9800 and he runs on good settings completely. looking on how a lot RAM you've you ever ought to judge which card to get factoring the quantity of RAM with the cardboard.
