is there a dwarf bearded dragon?

ok so about 2 years ago i bought a male and female bearded dragons . they were from different families but roughly the same age. but over the past 2 years i have noticed that the male has grown huge compared to the female. she is just 10 inches long but he has grown to 17 inches long. i have fed them the same so i was just wondering if she was a dwarf beardie. i was hoping to breed them but i wernt sure if it would be ok

Do they live together? Then, that is exactly why she is smaller.

Dragons live in solitary in the wild, only coming together to mate. They see another dragon in their enclosure as an intruder and this causes a lot of stress. Stress can cause a reptile's health to decline rapidly. Do they bask and sleep on top of each other? A common sign of dominance that will cause stress. Classic signs of stress include not eating, sleeping a lot, and finally, one will grow while the other remains small. Eventually, they will fight, resulting in a severely injured dragon or a dead dragon. It may not happen this week, or this month, or this year, but it WILL happen. Check your husbandry and separate them and I can promise you will see an improvement in their health and attitude and they will both thrive and be happy.

In this species, neither the male nor the female is consistantly bigger than the other gender. 10" is way too small for a 2 year old and no where near big enough to breed. You need a major revising of your husbandry, and you especially need to get that girl in her own home so she can have a happy, healthy life.

Rankin's Dragons are a different species, Pogona henrylawsoni. They have been called 'pygmy bearded dragons,', or 'dwarf bearded dragons'. Bearded Dragons are Pogona vitticeps. Bearded dragons (as opposed to Rankin's dragons) are very widely available, and have been bred in a huge variety of different color, pattern, and scale variation morphs (such as leatherback, etc). Only a very few morphs of the Rankin's dragon have yet been produced, including hypo and yellow. Rankin's dragons are much less commonly available than bearded dragons. So, you won't be finding any 'tiger leatherback' Rankin's dragons. The Rankins are not a variety of bearded dragon, or a dwarfed version of the bearded dragon--they are a completely different lizard that is in the same genus. :)

There is a dwarf beardie but that would usually effect the color of it, not size. Also my female is about 2 and her body is about 10 inches also.

I think beardies just come in all shapes and sizes like humans. My current beardie is smaller than my first one who in turn was a lot smaller than the ones I saw in the petshop! There is a subspecies called a Rankin's. Google pictures and see if yours looks like one. Otherwise just don't worry about it. I don't know about breeding her. Its best to ask that on a proper beardie forum.

I am not sure, but i think that's normal, the males are supposed to be bigger. Or maybe your female dragon is just smaller than average size. It could be a lot of things. I'd ask the people who sold them to you.
