Question about Islamic prayers...?

I was looking up the difference between dua and salah when I noticed in a photo that only the men were praying. The women, elders and children stood or sat in the background. I understand the position of elders only being required to do what they can. Children not old enough to understand obviously don't participate just yet. But what is the role of women during the different types of prayer?

Update:

Thank you, Jasminelilia. I'm not trying to form an opinion but only gain understanding. I wasn't sure if women participated with the men or if their duty was to care for the others while the men prayed. Also if they had to make up the prayer later if they were busy tending to others during the prayer.

Update 2:

Hi Dunya. Thank you also. Your explanation is a great help.

Update 3:

It's all good pianomusic, I sent you an email. :)

    Hi,

Dua'a - just talking to Allah (God), can be said anytime, throughout the day, calling on Allah (God) for help, strength, giving gratitude, praise, etc...there are some dua'as already known ...but you don't have to follow a script in dua'a, just personal communication with Allah (God)

It is obligatory on BOTH women and men to do salah

I dont know about the picture.. maybe the women had their period (women are exempted from doing the 5 daily prayers when they're on their period, though they still get counted as doing prayers...just so there's not hardship on them during their menustration and it's hard for them to keep in a state of cleanliness for prayer)... or maybe the men in the picture are doing an extra prayer .. and others arent doing it...or i don't know to behonest

But women are equal to men in spirituality, good deeds, doing prayer, etc etc so the role of women is the same as the role of men... their relationship with Allah (God) is of equal importance and they are not inferior in prayer, or any other aspect

    Hi shenzara,

Since you closed one of your other questions, I thought I might be able to "catch" you on this one. I'm sorry, I know this has nothing to do with your question above.

I commented before on your understanding of the Bible. You stated and believe that the Old Testament is obsolete and just a history lesson; siting Hebrews 8:13. Well, I am not able on this forum to explain really what Hebrews 8 and 9 are talking about. The language is difficult atleast, but there are some "curious" verses which must not be overlooked and that point to a covenant beyond and after the first two.

I will say this though: that all that history is dripping with the Gospel and Jesus Christ; it is all parabolic and points to or is a sign of Christ and some aspect of His salvation/judgment plan. The feast days, etc. are "shadows" of things to come (Col.2:16-17).

Besides that, I don't know how you can overlook the major and minor prophets of the Old Test. and their prophesies of the end times. How can you say that is "history". For example: in Isa. 65:17 we find this:

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” (Isa 65:17 AV)

My question to you is this: can you find any verse in the New Test. that tells us that in the new heaven and new earth that the bride of Christ is not going to remember the former heaven and earth?

As for James 2:26 - "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." - this is pointing to the fact that the source of good works is from God. If we are truly saved then we will have good works not only out of thanksgiving and a strong desire to be obedient but because it is God who works in you both to will and do of His good pleasure" (Phil.2:13). The Glory belongs to God!

The only works that can save anyone are the works which Jesus Christ did "BEFORE" the foundation of the world:

“For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” (Heb 4:3 AV)

Shenzara, if you wish to discuss this further you can e-mail me: mnmjmlefl@sbcglobal.net. Thanks and sorry again for intruding. I won't do it again.

Women pray too, as well as make dua. There is no difference between the genders in their obligations. Salah is what we are supposed to do 5 times a day ideally. Dua are just little prayers you can make throughout the day like I hope to to well on my exam, Allah give me strength etc.

Please do not base your opinions off one photo.
