Flying into NYC, JFK or LGA?
Should we fly into JFK or LaGuardia. We're looking at Jetblue which flys into JFK, or Southwest, which is LaGuardia. Does it make a difference? The drive time doesnt really matter to us.
There's horror stories of every airline though - we've flown Southwest many times but heard bad things about LGA.. We dont really want to fly into Newark.

Go for JFK. That's because you have the option of take taxi from the airport to Midtown, Manhattan for $45 flat fee, plus toll, or you can take the Airtrain to either Jamaica for connection to the subway and the Long Island Railroad, or Howard Beach for connection to "A" train to Manhattan.
LGA is more of smaller airport, with no direct subway connection to Manhattan. The only way to get to Manhattan from LGA is either taking an airport express bus to Grand Central or the Port Authority Bus Terminal, a taxi, or the city bus to either Astoria Blvd or Jackson Heights for transfer to subway.
Good luck

La Guardia has a problem with weather, the very last mile you fly low over the city and the last stretch over the Long Island Sound. If it is windy or raining there are a lot delays and cancellation.
In the same case JFK is still open as you can fly a wider circle out to the ocean,
they keep it open for a longer time as the majority of international flight come in through JFK,
also: Jet Blue has a own terminal in JFK (which is the old TWA building and a landmark, it has the form of an eagle with outstretched wings and is a historical landmark ! You see it in the film "Catch me if you can" with DiCaprio.)
Lived in NY and traveled a lot domestic, every time choose JFK over LGA.
Taxi to Midtown is appr. 45 $ (the rate is fixed, whatever way they take), they will give you a sheet of paper with the fare for the way and you can check the license number and complain.
NWK: issue is: you can get stuck in the tunnels or the bridges when you go to NYC and it is very overcrowded since 2 years.

The drive time is probably not a consideration in choosing between LGA and JFK.
There is a public transportation connection between JFK and mid-town. From LGA, you are probably stuck with a taxi.
The taxi fare between JFL and midtown is fixed by the NYC Hack Commission. From LGA, you use the meter, and if the driver chooses a longer route, that's your tough luck.
You say that Jet Blue flies into JFK, while Southwest flies to LGA.
My preferences would be JFK and Southwest, but that combination doesn't work. I've never flown Jet Blue, but I've heard horror stories.
Maybe you should look at Newark?

It really just depends on where you can get a better deal. I always try to fly with very little luggage so I won't have to bother with a cab. You can take the subway out to JFK but it's my recollection you also have to mess with a shuttle bus between the subway and airport, and the subway ride is sort of long. So that's not my favorite. I prefer La Guardia because there's a city bus you can take directly to the 125th Street & Lex station, not a long ride, and from there jump right onto the 4-5-6 subway and get anywhere. Newark is also OK because there's a shuttle bus that takes you right from the airport into Port Authority, used to cost like $12 and is probably a bit more now, does not take long and from there you can hop right on the subway to anyplace.

If you're not planning on a rental car, I'd recommend checking out:
MTA website: www.mta.info (NY Subway)
Long Island Railroad : http://www.mta.info/lirr/
NJ Transit: www.njtransit.com
From JFK, you've got a few options:
1) Take the Super Shuttle into NYC. (Note, this is a van, so you could get stuck in traffic).
2) Take the airtrain to Long Island Railroad into NYC.
3) Take the airtrain to the NYC subway system.
From LGA, there's no airtrain (far as I know), so you'd have to take the bus. LGA is a smaller airport, and limited on what size jets can get in.
From EWR, getting into New York City is extremely easy:
Once you get your luggage, make your way to the monorail that's up along the top back side of each terminal. There will be an automated machine there that takes credit cards. You can input your end destination (New York Penn Central), and it takes credit cards. You'll take the monorail over to the Newark Airport Station on the New Jersey Northeast Corridor line. Just hop on the Northeast Corridor line train, and it will take you directly into New York Penn Station.
(Note, there is a Newark Penn Station (in NJ), and a New York Penn Station (in NY).
If you're traveling via subway or train in NYC, you need to know the three different major transportation hubs:
1) New York Penn Station (located next to Madison Square Garden), around 31-33rd St and 7th Ave. (This is your end point from NJ side)
2) Port Authority Bus Terminal. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is located about 8 blocks north of New York Penn Station between 40th and 41st streets and 8th Ave
3) Grand Central Terminal, located on 42-43rd street and Madison Ave. This would be your end point from JFK and LGA if taking a train or subway into NYC.
Regardless of the travel, I recommend you check out Grand Central Terminal, just to look at the ceiling.

these peeps are FOS....lagaurdia all day long!! its way closer, so much easier and you don't have to deal with the van wyck expressway.....by far one of the most crowded roads in America!! you can take the shuttle for 15 bucks to grand central or penn station from lagaurdia or you can take the q33 to the 7 train for 2.50...ask for a transfer tho and be in the city while jfk passengers are still waiting for luggage!!! I fly out of and into LaGuardia weekly .....no easier airport and since the renovations its way better in terms of food and free wifi and charging poles for electronics!!!

I HATE Laguardia, so I would have to say JFK.
But you should also consider Westchester Airport (HPN)--it's much smaller, which makes for a MUCH nicer flying experience, and it's not much farther from the city. We live about half an hour from Westchester airport, and on our most recent flight home, we landed at 6pm, and were home by 6:30--with a checked bag! The extra time it will take you to get to the city will be saved by all the time you won't spend navigating the airport and finding your luggage.
Good luck!

Personally, I feel safer at JFK or Newark. It's a bigger airport. I have never flown out of LaGuardia.

JFK is really crowded me and my family went to that airline. My grandparents picked us up and it was a hassle for them because police kept telling them to move! :( So I would go to LaGuardia! I hope you have a fun trip...enjoy! Newark is good try it!

I always fly through Newark because you don't have to take cabs or subways. You can take NJ Transit right to Penn Station in Midtown.
Also, while you're in NYC, you can treasure hunt... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSHDEYkgsx8
