For 1200-1300 Km, you have to go in for Petrol... Petrol engine lasts much longer than diesel and requires less maintenance... this is in addition to the extra cost that you save by not buying a diesel... Overall, Petrol cars are much better... they also perform much better in very cold temperatures... SO PETROL!!!

As the old law book says, below 1500kms petrol is the choice. Though I'm a petrol lover, I say that Diesel engines are not the same as they used to be decades ago. They have equally in par with Petrol these days. Honda once upon a time used to say they will never go with Diesels, now they have started with Diesels engines for the CRV and other models. No sweat friend, Diesel engines 've evolved over the time and they are equally good as Petrol these days.

New diesel engines are on par with the petrol engines in terms of reliability etc. but they do cost a bit high then petrol version. So do the math - 1500(km)x12(months)x5(years of use) - how much would you save - 1500x12x5x(price difference/mileage difference),
compare the above with the difference between your intial investment(diesel version price - petrol version).

They are usually equipped with glow plugs for cold weather starting.
They are a hell of a lot more efficient.
They are stronger.
Get the diesel.

^^^^Do not listen to that. Diesel engines are far more reliable, get better mileage, and usually cost less.
