iTunes will not update last played or play counts. Please help?

Ok, whenever I sync ipod with itunes, itunes doesn't update the songs I know I listened to on my iPod, as well as not updating the play counts.

It's really annoying me and I want to solve this issue.

My computer is a windows vista and ipod nano 5th generation

    Are you letting the song play all the way through?, And then switch songs automatically, thats the only way a play count goes up, if the song plays completely
