Open carry in Colorado.?

Open carry is legal but I have not seen too many people doing this. If anyone in the Denver Metro area is interested I would like for us to get together to discuss the issue and encourage people to do this. It is a good way to deter crime and show support for the Second Amendment. Anyone interested can email me and we will see how many are interested and if we can meet some where to get to know each other and discuss ways to encourage law abiding honest citizens to participate. Thanks.

Update:

Thanks Herbi, Just checking to see how people feel. I know Denver is screwed up on the open carry law.

Update 2:

Thank you f100. You are right about places you can't carry it. I appreciate your input.

This has been discussed in other gun/ccw forums in recent months. The police chief in Denver has said that anybody seen open carrying in Denver will be taken to the ground, handcuffed, disarmed, placed in the cruiser, their criminal record and gun checked, and then if everything checks out, they may give you back your now unloaded firearm and tell you to depart the area. Many other municipalities like Boulder or Fort Collins are probably the same. Colo. does offer a reasonable CCW license. The answer is "yes, but". Denver has been fighting the state preemption laws and winning. You might open carry in Canon City but discretion is the better part of valor. Check the links.

True, open carry IS legal; BUT, even so, there are many places you can NOT carry, like the local Wal-marts,(store policy,) city and county and state buildings, "weapon free" school zones, etc.

Unless I feel the need for some reason, (I live in a rural area, not the "city",) it is more trouble than it is worth most of the time.

I do NOT want to have to leave it in my vehicle to go shopping!! THAT leads to auto break-ins, if the "bad people" see it left behind.

As to the Denver chief's ideas, I hadn't heard about it since I don't live in the area, AND have no reason to go there; BUT, I defy ANY officer to take my weapon by force BEFORE I get at least 1 shot off, and I AM proficient.

(I HAVE drawn, and fired, AGAINST an already pointed weapon AND WON or I would NOT be here; but, that was NOT in Colorado AND it WAS "concealed" carry at the time, WITH a permit! THERE WERE NO CHARGES FILED over it either!)

I haven't personally seen anyone in the Denver Metro area, other than police, with a side arm openly in over 30 years (even then it was a very very rare sight).

    >"It is a good way to deter crime "

Hold on there stranger! How so? You get into the middle of something, for whatever reason, the police respond and see you holding that weapon, you'll become a target! The problem with your theory is that it provokes trouble rather than deters it!

I am not sure who concerns me more, the "criminals" or the "law abiding honest citizens"! Based on how the law is written, there are also, by definition "law abiding honest citizens" that are marginal characters (they just have not been caught or convicted of a crime)!

You can always move to Texas, half the citizens must have carry permits! They even recognize permits issued by every state in the US.

So, this is your contribution to solving problems?

you are able to "open carry" in Colorado. a enable is had to hold hid. to the guy decrease than: this regulation grew to become into incredibly overtly replaced in basic terms a pair of years in the past. a interior sight baby-kisser appealed to the U. S. ideally suited courtroom bringing up this alteration in regard to his case. Getting "taken down" should not be a controversy...
