How about unusual...
Construct a flag out of a plastic material that is piezoelectric. That is the material used in motion detectors...
As the wind blows the flag flaps and creates electricity...
Advantage - no birds killed....
More traditional...
How about a triple solar cell arranged in a corner cube configuration...
Each cell is designed to efficiently extract solar energy out of a portion of the solar spectrum. Each cell has a reflective coating that reflects the energy it isn't designed to convert so that energy is reflected to the next cell and so on... Converting the spectrum more efficiently...

The alternate ways i knew about generating electricity is 1) Geo-thermal energy 2) Wind energy
Geo-thermal plants are used in western countries to generate electricity as well as for room heating(by using hot water.). I have gone through one website which explains the details of it.I have studied about them and have an idea about them. I have a link of it,i will search and post it next time.
We all know that Wind energy is a renewable resource for generating electricity. Also eco-friendly(no pollution :) ). search it in google to get some basic idea of it.
I'll try my best to post the related links.

Hydroelectric - completely safe, renewable, as long as there are rivers. Nuclear - debatable, but you can generate a lot of Electricity form nuclear fission. Geothermal - clean and free, non polluting. Solar, clean, renewable, free, but hard to set up initially. Look up more on the web.

It's your job to explain, not mine. I will merely suggest topics for your homework problem.
Space-based solar power, beamed down to Earth with microwave lasers (untested)
Polywell fusion reactors (still largely untested)
