Who else thinks Rock music sucks now?
I'm only 14 but I think Rock music just totally went downhill from 2004, I know listen to hip-hop but used to like blink-182, green day and other bands but it seems that the new/old that came back just suck now. What happened to Lenny Kravitz? The only rock bands I can stand listening to now are like punk bands like Streetlight Manifesto, Less than Jake, the Roots. Bands like Fall out boy to me are just a bunch of guys who try to dress like Rock stars and make music we've basically already heard. other examples. papa Roach. Just seem gay now. Green day Are terrible now
alright White stripes thumbs up alwys liked them, MGMT alright they'r e good too yea, ummm old stuff nine inch nails all that good too, I just posted some examples, Vampire Weekend, Ra ra riot, Indie music is the better category of rock out right now.
And to user Beware, umm old stuff such as AC/DC, ozzy ozbourne all that **** has been totally overplayed in teh last 4 years by kids my age to the point where u don't like the bands anymore
I don't like any song played on Modern day radio

next you'll be telling us that rock and pop should be separated...

Well... I'll tell you this. The rock station where I live can't survive on modern rock alone, and, probably a third of the airplay is music from the 90s and the last decade. Maybe even more than a third.
"Rock" as such has definitely blended into a poppier sound, frequently blending with techno and electronic sounds. That has definitely created a rift between the rock worlds. The division is as deep as, say, Mudvayne and Nickelback with Linkin Park running the middle ground.
But rock has been looking for a new direction ever since "Alternative" and "grunge" anyway. Honestly, Nirvana was only good rock music with a new clothing style. Cobain could've put that stuff out in the 70s if he wanted. The Smashing Pumpkins were introducing electro long before The Killers. Whatever.
The truth is that rock is losing it's identity as a genre solely combining the drums, a base, a lead guitar, maybe a keyboard and a singer. However, this is no bad thing because rock isn't dying. It isn't sucking. it's evolving.

Yes rock music today is a sorry excuse to put talentless rock musicians on the radio. but its all starting to die. fallout boy is dead, and emo is dieing very very quickly. and bands like nickelback are all washed up and cant write anymore shitty songs because no hit radio station will take them. in the late 80's there was shitty pop music and glam metal, which was all terrible. but them came grunge, underground rock groups were getting popular. then causing rock to go mainstream, to the point when Mariah Carey was wearing grunge. real rock will be back, and soon i predict. just wait its coming its happed before

I don't think so. Rock music is usually the only kind of music that I can really feel the singer's emotions through, which I love. Singers of other genres usually just aren't as passionate.

Green Day are terrible now? Just that alone has to be the funniest thing I've heard in quite some time. Was I sleeping during their "good" phase? Maybe I wasn't born yet.
There's still some pretty decent newer stuff out there, but sadly I tire of most of it shortly after discovering it. I've gone through so many phases over the last 20 years or so where I've given current music a chance, but always seem to resort back to the 'ol tried and true.

Two points you made perfectly clear in your argument...
1. Modern rock has come down to Fall Out Boy, Papa Roach, and Green Day. There are no other bands in existence, and all hope is gone for music.
2. You are the coolest person ever for listening to older music and shall remain infinitetly cool forever, for hating modern music.
Congratulations, kid. Keep living in ignorance.
There's lots of fantastic modern music out there. Dig for it. Older music is awesome, and keep loving it, but don't be put off by crappy bands like Fall Out Boy. There's some great stuff out there, just search for it. Or stick around here, and people will suggest you good stuff.

Oh look at me! I'm a kid who doesn't go by modern teen conventions! I listen to old rock and new rock sucks!
Seriously, we've seen it all before. No one cares. I think rock music is just fine -- if you did any searching at all I'm sure you could come up with some good bands.

Your question comes off as very "music snob"-y. There will be good music, and bad music. There will be things you will like, and things you will dislike. But these rock bands you think "suck" obviously appeal to someone else. That is why they are so successful.

Your comparing all of todays music to just a couple of bands??? Get a clue junior! Until you've heard at least few thousand bands your not worthy to make that assumption!

You're not looking in the right places, what about The Libertines, The Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes?
