A lot of people say to just download a free anti-virus, but those are usually not the best. If you spend a little you can get a really good anti-virus that is versatile, fast, and easy to use. It's an investment in your computer, and it will pay off big if you ever get a bad virus. There are a couple of really good ones, but the best is Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010: http://www.amazon.com/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-...
Kaspersky is the best balance between powerful features and low system footprint and low price. You can usually get it a little cheaper over at their main website: http://www.kaspersky.com/af/kaspersky_internet_sec...

I use Norton 360 Premiere, blocks spam and corrects registry errors other stuff too and is easy to use, available at their website www.symantec.com I paid $85 for 1 year. For the past 10 years i've used Norton and have been happy with them.
Lately I've read that Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is the most highly rated, though i've never used them . I think 1 year is $60.
I've never had a problem, and I doubt free software is as reliable.

If you need a free antivirus program, I would recommend that you try using Microsoft Security Essentials, which can be downloaded from the link below.

If you need a free antispyware program, perhaps you should try using MalwareBytes, which can be downloaded from the link below.
Also, perhaps you should try using Mozilla FireFox, which is a free browser that is safer than Internet Explorer and can be downloaded from the link below.
Good luck and I hope I helped you!

in basic terms have one anti-virus or anti-malware software that runs in realtime. secure practices necessities is an anti-virus and anti-malware software. something you install that runs in realtime will conflict with MSE. it is not significant in spite of if this is an anti-virus or anti-spy ware. you should use courses like Malwarebytes that are on-call for scanners and removers in basic terms.
