could a thermonuclear device seal the bp oil leak?

If they could make atom bomb the was thin enough they could put it at the end of a very long rod which would be stuck into the well head, pushed down the pipe, down into where the well is a hole in solid rock. Then set it off. There would be so much heat, the rock would melt. when it cooled the well would be sealed.

As stated it would probably create a much worse situation. Tossing nukes into the earth's ocean crust probably isn't the brightest of ideas. It would create a massive crater. It could create massive tidal waves. It could also create a massive gushing flow without ANY chance of fixing it apart from waiting till all the oil has emptied into the gulf.

This has only ever been done on land. It has been completely rejected by all experts underwater, as it would likely just cause a vast crater with uncontrollable flow.
