Obama says that he inherited the economic crisis from Bush?

What specifically did Bush do to cause the economic crisis?

People say that the two wars caused the financial crisis but thousands of workers building bombs, tanks, planes, cars, and other weapons are employed because of the war and thousands of soldiers are employed making combat pay because of the war. Entire countries are being rebuilt by US contractors.

Update:

How is the debt hurting our economy? Any Democrat that was in office would have gone to war against Afghanistan. We are on schedule to pull out of Iraq after 6 years. We are not Greece we can handle the short term debt that war brings.

Update 2:

How did tax breaks hurt the economy. Contractors and soldiers do pay taxes.

Bush wasn't proactive enough. He tried to regulate Fannie and Freddie, but he didn't try hard enough.

He also didn't have a clue on what to do. McCain did, but with the wrong adviser.

"thousands of workers building bombs, tanks, planes, cars, and other weapons are employed because of the war"

Yeah because you know, thousands of workers, really help the unemployment numbers. God almighty, if this was a tiny country, I could understand this statement, but the USA is HUGE. These people employed to build the bombs, tanks and other weapons, are a very small portion of the people working. Not to mention try looking into where most of these things are actually made, not assembled.

"thousands of soldiers are employed making combat pay because of the war"

Yes they are. An illegal war. One started based on lies. Thousands of men and women have died because of trumped up evidence. I would rather have these soldiers safe and sound, than dying for a stupid reason.

"Entire countries are being rebuilt by US "

This is what the US people are told. If you have the opportunity to live in another country, you would know the truth. We went in, destroyed infrastructure, destroyed their government, and have done virtually nothing to repair the mess we made. Oh here in the US you will be led to believe the opposite is true.

"Any Democrat that was in office would have gone to war against Afghanistan."

Why? Can you explain this statement because I am at a loss.

"We are on schedule to pull out of Iraq after 6 years."

Man I would love to have a dollar for every time they said we are going to pull out of Iraq. It isn't going to happen.

"We are not Greece we can handle the short term debt that war brings."

Anyone who cannot float their own economy without loans and selling T bills cannot handle ANY sort of debt..be it long term or short.

Bravo Patrick...excellent answer. I would only add you have to look at when the economy really started to tank, it was after the democrats took both houses in 2006. I am not saying they are to completely blame either, but they definitely had a hand in it, or in not stopping it. Obama has been in office over a year now and for most of that year had a super-majority to back him, yet the only way he could get healthcare passed was through a backdoor, he has done nothing of use to fix the economy. He has only pushed forth with his agenda without regard for this country. It's time for Obama and the dems to stop blaming Bush, pull up their big boy undies and do what they said they were going to do, which was to fix all these things they saw as wrong. Or we see a single term president, just like with Carter.

    What Bush did "specifically" was to be a Republican president; no-one really understands the reason, but stock markets ALWAYS do better when a Democrat is in the White House than when a Republican is;

Here is a quick breakdown of the data:

    DEMOCRAT PRESIDENTS

    Dow, 21 Years, +9.6% avg

    NASDAQ, 13 Years, +23.64% avg

    S&P 500, 21 Years, +11.66% avg

    REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS

    Dow, 29 Years, +4.97% avg

    NASDAQ, 26 Years, +5.38% avg

    S&P 500, 29 Years, +4.38% avg

Somewhat paradoxically, Republican presidents are apparently just "bad for the economy"!

the US financial gadget is barely midway via a recession that began in December 2007 and would be the longest and maximum extreme interior the placed up-conflict era. U.S. gross kinfolk product will proceed to settlement for the time of all of 2009 for a cumulative output loss of five%. One final look at 2008 will show an rather susceptible fourth quarter with GDP growth contracting approximately -6% interior the wake of a pointy fall in very own intake and private kinfolk investment. I see the actual GDP growth contraction taking part in out in the time of the 12 months as follows: first quarter 2009: -5%; 2nd quarter 2009: -4%; 0.33 quarter 2009: -2.5%; fourth quarter 2009: -a million%--including as much as a each year actual GDP growth of -3.4% for the U.S. in 2009. This forecast is plenty worse than the present consensus forecast seeing a growth restoration interior the 2nd 0.5 of 2009; I additionally assume critically susceptible growth restoration--nicely under ability--in 2010.

Well, as you probably are aware, economies across the world fluctuate constantly, regardless of who is in the White House. The American economy does factor in this point but is not solely dependent on who is president.

To answer your question more specifically, the overwhelming majority of monies used to rebuild these countries comes from OUR pockets. Foreign nations don't pay the salaries of our servicemen, we do. U.S. contractors hire almost exclusively from the local populations of the countries they are in. Many of the materials used in reconstruction are purchased from foreign governments.

Although I don't believe Bush is solely responsible, he did however set in motion many policies that have affected the U.S. economy in a negative way.

Let us not forget the tax break to the top percentile ... not mention the fact that those contractors are not paying taxes either if they are deployed in a foreign country. nor are the soldiers, so those jobs in which are needed and well respecting of those who have them are not recontributing back into the US budget.

I also would like to add that under Clinton our national debt was actually going down whare as as soon as bush got elected the first thing he did was turn it around to go back up. Just like under his father and Reagan and pretty much like every president since Jackson.

Oblamea that's all that needs to be said....Bill Clinton started this housing crisis by lowering subprime lending. Oblamea has created more debt that Bush could dream of...stimulus package...reenacting international abortion funding.......Healthcare bill....

Maybe it had something to do with the $10.8 Trillion debt and $1.3 Trillion deficit that Bush handed to Obama. Also, Bush hid the costs of those two wars and the Katrina cleanup elsewhere.

He inherited the largest deficit in history. He may well have to raise taxes to right the Republicans' overdraft. I am a democrat and I wouldn't mind higher taxes if it leads to some stability.
