Simple assult charges?

My mom attaked me. i hit her once to try to push her off me. the cops were called and now we both have simple assult charges aggainst us. the cops told me that my mom was just "excersizing her rights as my parent". im pretty sure beating the crap out of your kid and threatening to kill them is not right. they almost arrested me for my one hit on her. the only reason they didnt is because i wouldnt have been able to come home. now i have a court date. and idk what to do or say. this is unfair. help?

Update:

im 17 and the cops were the ones who charged use both. can we stop the charges now?

Leaving a little out of the story, or are we to believe you were sitting in your room doing your homework and she just attacked you. If you are under 18, she has a right to ask you to do things and take action if you are out of control. You don't have a right to hit her.

At your court date, you can ask any questions you might have.

it doesnt matter what her relation to you is... she has no right to hit you, you were only defending yourself. (if what you said is true)

maybe you and your mom can agree not to press charges against each other...

if you said how old you were, that could make a difference
