Beijing tea scam help?

Much to my suprise I was taken in by the beijing tea house scam. I am wondering if anyone knows who I should contact about this. I used a credit card at the tea house so their location is known and I believe I can find it again. I think I should contact the US Embassy here in Beijing. Has anyone does this? What is the chance of getting my money refunded? I can't believe this happened to me as I have never been scammed before while travelling but it did.

If this has happened within the last hours (and leaving you the final judgement of the situation), it might not be a bad idea to simply go back to the tea house and stir things up demanding for a refund. I've been able to see more than a few testimonies of travelers getting their money back by raising their voice and acting angry, pretending to be calling the police on the spot, as the owners of these establishments (needless to say) want as little public attention as possible, especially when other "customers" are around. Have a look at these testimonies:

Of course, if this doesn't work, you can still try asking your bank to deny payment, and contacting the police. I suggest that before you do, you seek the advice of your hotel's management.

    Hope this helps! Cheers :)

that only helps if you have requested an official invoice (called fa piao in chinese)from the shop, or else they can say whatever they want, this is china, it happens a lot! if you ask for help from either embassy or the chinese government you need to have something that is official in china like the invoice

also try to call your bank and see if they can hold that payment for a time being while you sort things out

Jeez, if its anything under 250 RMB I would left it go. It's basically chump change and is not worthwhile to spend hours with the consulates and the credit card company to fix.

If the charges did exceed that amount, you should call the police by dialing 110. Hopefully they will give you a partial refund.

It happened to me too when i first touched down in China a few years ago. There's nothing you can do really unless you have friends in high places or with big muscles. If that happened to me now I would refuse to pay and kick up such a big fuss that they would start begging me to leave.

You used a credit card right? Your only hope is to file a "dispute" with your credit card company.
