is crashing in an armored vehicle safer than not armored?

I was watching the original tv series for the A team and they were putting armor on a car and i thought what if they crashed? And i know armored vehicles in real life exist but if they crash the armor tries to prevent the car from compressing making the stop harder on you because it wont compress, OR does it do that up to a certain speed then resist better at high speeds being more resistant to the crash? Any evidence? Armored cars are bullet resistant but what about crash safety?

Well I can tell you that I have read about many armored trucks either crashing or turning over and the occupants are never killed, they may be bruised but the armor does protect them in crashes.

I would imagine that inertia behind all that extra weight will carry the vehicle through most anything that has less inertia that is coming at you or blocking your path. Ride a bicycle through a paper banner and you will barely feel the resistance. Ride the bike through a brick wall and you won't go anywhere but to a dead stop. It's the inertia that carries you through the resistance. A locomotive hitting a car at a grade crossing feels more like running over a bear can because of the difference in the weight and the inertia behind the locomotive.

I would say it's safer up to a point.

crashing in a armored car would kill you. all the armor adds tons of weight and the car frame and the rest of te car is still the same. when you hit something it will be twice as hard. the only thing theyre good for is bullets not crashing.
