What area in London is nice to live in but not too expensive?

I am moving to London and although I have lived in London before - that was a long time ago.

I do not want to spend loads of money on rent but still want a nice neighbourhood/area .. and I sure do not mind multicultural areas.

I also do not want to live too far outside the city - about 30 minutes by tube into the centre is roughly my limit.

If you live somewhere accessible by tube then you will generally pay more. If you want the tube then I would pick Greenwich, Balham or Southfields in the south. The new East London overground line goes to Forest Hill and Sydenham which are very nice. Not sure about the north!

Crouch End, Finchley, Hendon. Cricklewood - I'd reommend you go North, rather than South, because there are so few tube stations in South London

Im afraid theres no such place. Even the terrible areas cost a fortune to live in, unless your on welfare of coarse.I would Like to live in Wansted, Muswell Hill or Borough would all be nice places to live tho.
