Crimewatch UK -BBC 1.Now Judge,Jury & Executioner it seems?

I never knew that Crimewatch also doubled up as a court of law-tonight's lead story was a feature on convicted murderer Peter Tobin. Apparently he also attacked a woman 42yrs ago in Glasgow.

My problem is this-Regardless of what i think about Peter Tobin,it seems that an alleged victim can go on national TV and accuse someone of a crime that took place 42yrs ago. Without any DNA or witnesses, then this alleged assault would never get to court.

Can anyone explain why Crimewatch might have done this? Is it because they know Tobin will never see the light of day??

Is it even legal?

I am genuinely puzzled by this....

Tobin has no good character to defend, so he cannot bring a defamation case, or otherwise the amounts of damages would be trivial. He cannot get legal aid to bring a defamation case.

I didnt see the programme so cant really comment... but I will ;) . But If the victim can identify her attacker, then she is the witness and I dont see why it cant get to court. A lot of crimes have no outside witnesses, does she want to push the police into prosecuting?

If what you say is true, then with the amount of human rights prisoners have these days, scumbag Tobin could probably sue Crimewatch, for 'defamation of character' or some such rubbish.

Having said all that, I feel Crimewatch should concentrate on lowlifes that are still on the streets, not ones already banged up. Not to say I dont feel for this woman, but why come forward after 42 years? Why not when he was charged with other offences?

The thing is they are trying to find "Bible John" who is sort of the Boogie Man in Glasgow and there is some grounds to suspect he might actually be the killer, even today you will hear the expression "If you are bad, you'll go to the bad fire with Bible John" - Translated from the Glaswegian. It would certainly help some of Bible John's victims families get some closure.

I never watch the programme, it seems to be a pointless exercise !
