Kicking at 21 weeks? How much stronger will it get?

I've got a posterior placenta, and have been feeling flutters since around 15 weeks, and they have been getting stronger every day (as I would expect). Now at 21 weeks my little girl is quite a kicker. All day and night she kicks away, and it can be felt very very easily from the outside.

So my question is, if I'm feeling it this clearly already, will I be in agony during the last month of pregnancy?

I'm by no means complaining, I love every kick I feel, and spend hours a day with my hands on my belly, I'm just wondering how much stronger these will be getting.

And for my contacts, as an update, first off I'm sorry. I have had no urge to go near the computer during my second trimester. I'm 21 weeks now, with a healthy baby girl, I'm feeling great and am loving the 2nd trimester and every second of pregnancy. I hope everyone's doing well, and if you want to get in touch email (even though I've been avoiding the computer I'm still addicted to my blackberry!).

Heya! I would say that the kicking doesnt become painful, it can sometimes be a little uncomfortable but its not like someone kicking you from the outside later on if you know what I mean!!??! You may just get a shock when all of a sudden you get a big kick but it will feel like you are feeling it now i.e.not painful just strange!! What I have found most strange from about 28 weeks or so is when the baby moves about and you get a bum or a knee dragging across your tummy! it again doesnt hurt but its a very strange sensation, I liken it to pressing my fist aginst my tummy and dragging it along!

Anyway its great that your baby is so active, very reassuring :-) best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Wow!!! So happy to hear all of this! Such great news.

I had a posterior placenta with both pregnancies ... and around 28 + weeks the kicks were VERY VERY strong. However, only a few were uncomfortable ... none were agonizing. The only thing I found extremely uncomfortable (bordering on painful) was my 2nd son's head movements in the last few weeks of my pregnancy. It was a twisting, sharp pain ... my second was almost a 9lb baby as well.

By the time I hit 36-37 weeks, my baby was getting cramped and the kicks had turned into big movements. She will sweep a leg or an arm, or even better - her back, across my abdomen and you can see this motion very clearly. For me, my baby dropped early on and now that I'm past 40 weeks, she is so tight in there that when she tries to stick a leg out, it really hurts. As in, it feels like someone is pushing on a bruise over and over. But, it isn't horrible and I'm amazed at how well I can still sleep at night despite the party going on in my belly!

  • I think what happens is that those kicks turn more in to feeling every move she makes. Not just the cute little every so often kick. More like her turning over or moving her leg or arm or trying to stretch. It does get very uncomfortable the closer you get to having her because she just keeps getting bigger and theres no room!

She feels like shes in your back on your bladder and in ribs all at once pushing lol

Sometimes you think shes trying to get out through your belly or side

    It can be painful

My son used to play soccer in belly..lol. By the 8-9 month it would hurt me; especially because his feet were like in my ribs and i would have knees and elbows ( clearly visible from the outside) coming out on both my sides. they did get painful towards the end..but also your baby tends move les the last month because he/she doesnt have as much room to kick and punch like they used to when they were smaller..it hurt but it wasnt so bad..im now 15 weeks with my 2nd and am feeling movement also..Congrats and good luck !!

My daughter was a hell of a kicker, too. By the last month of the pregnancy, the kicks were bordering on painful-- actually, they WERE painful most of the time. But like you said, you love every kick anyway!

No. the kicks become stronger, but then as it gets more crowded, it just becomes bigger movement....not so much kicking, but a lot of shifting position and stuff.

Its really cool to see a foot move across the top of your belly!
