Constipation with no relief...help?

This happened to me about 2 years ago and has now reoccurred. I've never had very regular bowel movements (maybe once a week max?) but lately, I can tell that I am very stopped up. Sunday around noon, I took three laxatives (the max I was able to take). I also drank about 4 oz. of magnesium citrate. Woke up Monday-nothing had happened.

Monday, I drank the rest of the bottle of MC (6 oz.) and walked and cycled 18 miles and ate a lot of fruit. I had one lousy (small) bowel movement that was extremely hard to get out. (My rectum was bleeding for awhile).

I am still in discomfort and nothing is happening. What do I do to cleanse myself?

I would see a physician as soon as possible and until then I would increase my fluid intake with water and non-carbonated/caffeine free liquids. I would not continue to use laxatives since they are not working and can lead to increased gas/bloating adding to your discomfort.

An over the counter disposable enema can be tried, but due to the bleeding indicating probable hemorrhoids, this may be too painful. If you are able to use an enema and it does not relieve your symptoms completely, I would suggest being evaluated for a "lazy bowel" or megacolon.

The underlying cause of your intermittent constipation needs to be medically addressed in order to prevent future occurrence.

Don't continue in this discomfort, please see a physician.

You should see a doctor and get worked up for a bowel obstruction or at least seek medical attention. That is insanity.

Drink an entire bottle of prune juice - when you get that backed-up you risk it coming out hard and large and ripping your interior - - the prune juice will soften it up - works for me every time

At this point its time to make a visit to your physician. Anytime there is blood...that is a red flag. Don't delay by self medicating..Please take care of yourself.

A enema is what you need to try before the doctor.
