NRL: NSW State of Origin Side 2011?

NSW really did put up a fight in this last game. With Trent Barrett retiring and Beau Scott moving back to the second row at a club level to accommodate Mark Gasnier, there's two positions that need to be filled. Given that Michael Ennis single-handedly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, I'd be stamping his card with never to play Origin again. Other than a quiet Jason King and Brett Morris blowing a certain try, I was fairly happy with Origin side. With that in mind, this is what I would expect for next year.

1. Hayne

2. Morris

3. Lawrence

4. Jennings

5. Gordon

6. Carney

7. Pearce

8. Snowden

9. Farah

10. Galloway

11. Bird

12. Gallen

13. Lewis

14. Gidley

15. Mannah

16. Watmough

17. TLL

What would your NSW side look like?

I think Ennis has had his time at Origin now. I thought he wasn't doing too badly last year, but this year he just hasn't played as well.

I like Galloway, I feel if he wasn't injured before the first game he would have played this whole series. So pretty unlucky this year.

I think Farah would complement a Pearce and Carney combo well, providing Carney starts picking up his game. I think he's only had one or two stand out games for us this season and one of those games was without Pearce. It's a bit of wait and see for me with him.

Don't really think much of him as a person, but Bird was a standout tonight and would have to have him in the side for next year.

So I quite like that side. There would only be a couple that I would drop from tonight's squad and you've pretty much filled them for me.

Ok, this is just who I would pick, obviously after round 1 a lot of it is based on reputation but I have a few guys I think will break into the team on form. 1. B Stewart 2. J Hayne 3. M Cooper 4. M Jennings 5. J Monaghan 6. J Sutton 7. T Barrett 8. L Bailey 9. R Farrar 10. B Kite 11. P Gallen 12. N Hindmarsh 13. L O'Donnell 14. K Gidley 15. W Mason 15. C Heighington 17. A.Laffranchi Ok, my selection reasoning: Most of the good fullbacks wear maroon but Stewart should have competition from the likes of Patten and McKinnon. The wings are kind of by default because I do not rate Quinn or Williams. Cooper speaks for himself and I think Michael Jennings is ready to be a superstar. I feel the same way about Sutton and think a combo of him and Barrett will work, there are not that many quality halfs about, I would probably have Wallace or Orford next. You need a platform up front why I would go for a prop rotation of Kite/Bailey/Mason. You have Hindmarsh to be the work horse on D, the offload ability of Gallen and the all round game of O'Donnell in the backrow. I think people forget O'Donnell was the incumbent Australian lock before he got injured and I would take him over the likes of Stewart and Hoffman. On the bench you have the versatility of Gidley, Laffranchi's work rate and then my bolter Heighington who I think is ready to elevate his game to the next level.

    1. Hayne

    2. Morris

    3. Lawrence

    4.Gasnier

    5. Gordon

    6. Soward/ Carney depending on form

    7. Pearce

    8. Snowden

    9. Ennis

    10. Galloway/Douglas depending on form

    11. Watmough

    12. Gallen

    13. Bird

    14. Farah

    15. Lewis

    16. Mannah

    17. TLL

I think the tee am should look like this. I think Jennings just doesn't cut it at Origin level so went for CL and Gaz I think Soward should get first crack he has been playing well for 2 years now then Carney if he doesn't step up and I would probably go with douglas over Galloway only because big red gases to easy you would get more quality minutes out of Douglas. I also think Farrah would work well off the bench late in each half around the ruck

    1. Hayne

    2. Morris

    3. Lawrence or J Morris

    4. Jennings

    5. Gordon

    6. Campese

    7. Pearce

    8. Snowden

    9. Farah

    10. Mannah

    11. Heighington

    12. Watmogh

    13. Gallen

    14. Lewis

    15. Galloway

    16. Simms

    17. Bird

No place for Gidley. He had a great game last night but since tghe series was already decided, had he played like this in SOO 1 and 2, yes, but he didn't. Ashton Sims, if fit can cover both 2nd row and prop. Bird for back row and inside backs.

I'm sick of this 'he's built for origin' bullsh*t when it comes to Michael Ennis. The guy is no origin player and does not offer NSW what Smith offfers QLD. You could say he cost us the game and you'd be right. Along with the fact that Morris couldn't of got a better pass to the chest and how Watmough failed to put the ball down is beyond me. Brett White could have done more than King did. What is it, if you score a try you're out of the next match? (referring to Idris and White).

    My VICIOUS NSW would be:

    1. Hayne - looked electrifying

    2. Morris - his defence has saved him

    3. Jennings - looked dangerous but not set up properly

    4. Idris - you try stopping him 20m out from the try line. He'll draw the defenders.

    5. Gordon - solid performance from the rookie

    6. Carney - got the attacking flare

    7. Pearce - must step up

    8. Snowden - Was solid, fitness looked shot but did work hard

    9. Farah - creativity and right sense of mind, unlike that mutt.

    10. Tolman - should be ready for the next series.

    11. Gallen - man of the match and series for NSW i reckon

    12. TLL - also contender for man of the match, was awesome.

    13. Bird - played awesome, silenced the critics

    14. Lewis

    15. Watmough

    16. Mannah - solid running and defence

    17. Douglas - plays well in NRL and was unlucky not to be picked

I moved TLL to 2nd Row as our forward pack looked small compared to theirs last night. The average size in their pack must be 6'3 and weigh 110-115kgs easy.

    6. Jamie Soward ( not just because hes my favourite player but because over all hes a good five eighth. wally lewis and lone scout think he should be in there so get him in. his defence needs a lil improvement.

    7. Todd Carney ( someone who can actually PLAY)

    8. Keith Galloway (can be outstanding)

9.Robbie Farah or Michael Ennis idc

    10. Anthony Watmough ( great hitter and could knock any1 out :p )

    1. Hayne

    2. Morris

    3. Gasnier- Will be back to his best by then and will have 4 years in him

    4. Jennings

    5. Uate/ Gordon

    6. Bird- Extremely dangerous in Origin

    7. Pearce

    8. Snowden

    9. Ennis- Cannot afford to change this spine

    10. Douglas

    11. Lewis

    12. O'Donnell

    13. Gallen

    14. Gidley

    15. Mannah

    16. Watmough

    17. TLL

This 1,7,9 has to stay the same, its essential if we stand any chance next year. Ennis had a strong game while he was on except for that one brainsnap, he still deserves his spot. Every time Bird has played Origin, whether he's at 5/8 or lock he always has man of the match performances, I'd put him at second receiver to fit O'Donnell back in the starting side. The future is looking positive for us.

    15 Mannah

    defence).
