How does one write a persuasive speech on a non-controversial topic?
For a speech assignment, I'm trying to persuade my classmates not to procrastinate. There aren't a lot of statistics for this, and there isn't "another side" to argue against, so what do you wonderful people suggest?
Please don't tell me to pick another topic. It's too late. >_> I kind of procrastinated.

You make a good point when you say there isn't another side. Everybody perceives procrastination as a bad thing already. Nobody tries to procrastinate. It's like persuading people not to burn the toast.
Let's make your topic more specific, I think this will help. Persuade your classmates "not to procrastinate with essay writing".
Why do people procrastinate? These are the most common reasons:
- They can't think of a topic. - Like you ( :
- They can't think of anything to write
Persuade them that these two problems are illusions. In reality the reasons are:
- They can't think of a PERFECT topic. - Like you ( :
- They can't think of anything PERFECT to write
The desire for perfection is what makes us procrastinate. Procrastination is merely a symptom, the real enemy is the desire for perfection. Now you have a more interesting topic.
"Striving for perfection can lead to poorer results."
Start your speech with this quote from Voltaire "The perfect is the enemy of the good."
Then follow with something like this:
How many times have you procrastinated because you couldn't think of a good topic, run out of time, settled for an ok topic, rushed to get your essay finished and produced a poor result. I bet you wished you'd settled for the ok topic to begin with and had time to do a good job.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

War invigorates the economy, provides work to people who are drafted, and reduces population overcrowding. War also causes social change. Without World War II, women might never have been taken seriously in the workplace.
