Propane regulator camper question?
I just bought a brand new pop up camper. Last weekend when we took it out for July 4th weekend we tried to use the RVQ grill. On the high setting the best we could get was a flame 1/8th of an inch high. It barley was able to cook the brats after an hour and several times of relighting because the slightest wind would knock the flame out.
Last night we raised the camper and I wanted to try the furnace. What was happening is the fan would turn on, the pilot will kick on for 3 to 5 seconds and die out... then 10 seconds or so later it will try to fire up again. It will start up and only run from 1 to 3 seconds.
I guess my question is could this be the regulator or something else.
I know I could bring it back to the dealership but they are just under 2 hours away and the local dealership won't work on it because I didn't get it from them.
When I took the front cap off the regulator it was cranked all the way open. I left it open, half way, and all the way loose and there isn't a difference.

The connection between the piping system and the cylinder has an excess flow valve built into it that is there to sense if the piping is cut or ruptures. If it senses fuel flowing too quickly, it severely restricts the flow of gas.
It sounds like you may have opened the cylinder valve too quickly or had the appliance controls turned on high before you opened the cylinder valve.
Make sure the controls on the appliances are off. Then disconnect and reconnect the cylinder. Open the cylinder valve very slowly and only crack it slightly open. Wait 5 seconds and then open the valve all the way. Light the appliances and they should operate properly...
But first of all you will have to get a technician to properly adjust that regulator again. They will use a tool called a manometer to precisely measure the fuel pressure and adjust it to 11 inches of water collumn.

yes it very well can be the regulator.the tools to properly adjust it are not readily available to the average consumer.it can also be supply, as in a small tank, or the safety valve was opened to fast.anyway, open the safety valve on the tank slowly, and light your grill.then twist the cap on the regulator.i believe it is in to allow more fuel, but its been a few yrs.anyway do not exceed around 7/16 flame, or anything that isnt blue!very important, it should burn blue.the dealer will do the same, but it is their job.i believe you want around 7 and im not sur if its bar or inches of water.natural gas will run around 3.75-4 for the same system.

If your local dealer will not adjust it for you try calling a propane service center and see if they will at least troubleshoot it for you then call the dealer you got it from and see if they will pay for a repair from the propane dealer
