How to find out about author's personal appearances?
I'm not looking for a specific author, just when someone from the genres that I'm interested in will be in Western North Carolina or Eastern Tennessee. None of the book companies websites have anything like this, and none of the chain bookstores have store specific newsletters.

It is easier if you have a specific author in mind because you could check to see if there is a web site. If there is particular genre you are interested in, say romance, science fiction/fantasy, or historical fiction, you can google to find out if there is a chapter of the associations for these groups in your area. The associations know about author appearances, which are usually at group functions such as conferences and conventions, or at bookstores.
