If you want your canary to sing, don't place it in the same cage with your zebra finches. He's not going to want to sing being around the finches. Canaries sing not only to attract a mate, but also because they enjoy singing. Hearing the finches will discourage him to sing. I've seen this happen with male canaries. I'd keep the zebra finches in one cage, and keep the canary in another so he'll sing his heart out.

Otherwise, the two birds can be housed together. Most people mix the two species in an aviary rather than a cage.

I use to keep zebra finches in an aviary with a male and female canary. The male sang all the time. Individuals may differ though.

Make sure the cage is large enough that the zebra finches and canary can stay away from each other if they want to, and make sure there are multiple feeding stations. :)

I would not advise keeping your Canary with your Zebra's,Canaries can be quite annoying to Zebra's in a confined area such as a Cage ,

They prefer to be solitary at certain times and if you want your Canary to sing ,it will not do this when caged with your Zebra's.

It is more likely to attack and torment them
