Adventures in Babysitting
The friend actually ran away and was at the bus station, she also picked up what she thought was a cat and was petting it, and a cop told it .....that aint no cat.

I hope that it's "Adventures in Babysitting" (1987) I just bought a copy recently and haven't watched it yet.
