Really depends upon your budget. And the amount of time you will have on your vacation. Try your travel agent to help you with these questions. There are too many variables to give you a neat answer. Just depends upon how much money you have.
So if you want to go to as many sites as possible, and see as much as possible that are photogenic, then use a travel agent. There would be no concern for transportation, meals, accommodations, language barriers, if any. All that would be pre arranged. Or travel at your own time and place once you get there. I just don't want to have my nose stuck in a map as I try to navigate unfamiliar territory.
Do buy travel insurance. Very helpful what with the volcano in Iceland.
