I died in my dream. Is that normal?

I once heard some saying about how if you die in your dream then you die in real life, but, obviously, I'm still alive. Is it normal to die in your dream? And what does it mean?

Update:

In case the dream itself is relevant:

I was a on a spaceship with a bunch of people. We'd just escaped an experiment gone horribly wrong on some planet. The experiment (some guy who'd merged with a giant mechanized monster) chased after us through this maze of nebular lillies. We eventually got away, but the experiment busted our air tanks. There was a countdown on the spaceship that kept changing on numbers. Then, with ten minutes left, the sky outside the ship went black. Then it was like in a movie, all in slow motion. People started to run and then everything else went black and I, for lack of a better phrase, "felt myself die."

This is quite an odd phenomenon. I heard the same thing, but I don't necessarily believe that if you die in your dream, you die for real. I think dreams are just extremely vivid thoughts while you sleep. Yes you may have really weird dreams that make no sense to you, and at times feel like they can mean something. That's where my religious beliefs come to play. I believe God can give you a certain dream to give you a message. But dying I don't believe is a message of any sort. I have had dreams where multiple things would happen and right before I die, I wake up. I used to have dreams where I would fall continuously until I woke up. It's weird, but I never died in any of my dreams that I can recall.

I think that maybe it can be a sign of depression? I am not sure, I am just speaking my thoughts. So in my opinion, don't worry, take a day off to yourself, relax and have a nice time. Blow of some steam and just do, you!

Good luck with it all, I am sure it's nothing to be worried about!

    Hope I helped

I love dreams. You can not only enjoy them and try to solve their mysteries, but you can experiment with them as well! I'm only 12 years old, but since I was about 3 I've strangely remembered most of my dreams(I probobly forgot a lot of the ones from my younger years...haha). I sometimes purposely jump off of a cliff, or drown myself underwater to see what happens. Sometimes it's peaceful, other times you feel a pain unknown in conciousness. I've sometimes woken up searching for something, or thinking I'm still asleep, but I'm assuming that's normal too :D. Your phrase 'felt myself die' truly touches me. It fits so well into the reality of dreaming! Hope this helps!

  • well, im sorry to tell you this but, whether you dream about dieing or not - you will die....someday. Everyone does :) its inevitable. Sorry to break that to yah :D

Anyways..don't stress it. That's just a myth and superstition. Dreams are strange and thats normal. Forget it and move on. Something probably happened during your day that made your mind bring death up.

I once dreamt that I was laying in my casket watching my funeral. It was actually quite comical. My boyfriend had moved on and married my best friend Staci (who he absolutely hates) Stacis boyfriend Taylor was with Tonya (who HE absolutely hates) and some random old dude was in the corner staring off into space. Some weird song was playing.

Anywhoo don't let it bother you. Its nothing.

I've heard that too, but I die in my dreams all the time. At least once a month.

I have a Dream Dictionary that says when a person dies in a dream, they have good luck coming their way. So maybe you'll find money in your pocket or something. XD

i dont think its abnormal. in a dream i had the other night, me and my friends were being chased by these grown men, and i hid in the girls bathroom and locked myself in a stall (for some strange reason) and then all of a sudden my parents were in the bathroom with me, and we went to find my friends, and this guy was laying on a bed watching TV with my friend laying beside him, but she was A BABY, but with her normal head! and i couldn't tell is she was dead or asleep, and he had a bag of candy by the bed, so i grabbed his twislers because i wanted to see if they were stale, because i thought that would determine is she was dead or not.....then he got up and we ran, and we had to slide down the escalator in a laundry basket, and everyone was waiting for me, and i made a design on my hand with my tears.....haha i do the stupidest things in my dreams. im like a completely different person! :D

Source(s): and your dreams are weird? ;) haha i have the trippiest dreams everrrr!

yes. it's fine to dream about anything really, since dreams are based on real life experience inn your brain, but when you dream, your unconscious brain interprets them in ways that your conscious mind would not, because usually you can't control your dreams (except lucid dreaming)
