Why were Bill Clinton, the VP, and Pres. Obama so forgiving of Robert Byrd?

That is the way of our royalty. In their eyes, their own can do no wrong. Even if members of the "opposing" party clash in public, they are all in bed together.

Senator Robert Byrd had long since turned his back on the Klan and he publicly acknowledge how remorseful he felt for ever joining such a bigot and cruel organization.

And forgiveness is for the people doing the forgiving moreso than for those who are being forgiven.

Furthermore, it wasn't Bill Clinton's, Joe Biden's or President Obama's place to judge Senator Byrd.

That job alone belongs to God Almighty.

It seems to me that this is a question that is typical of the New Republicans style. It was his funeral, I, and most of my age or older were taught not to speak ill of the dead. I guess the New Republicans have thrown that and so many other signs of courtesy and respect out the window. At least the Democrats know how to show a little courtesy and respect.

Because Byrd has been expressing regret for his one-time-membership in the Klan for decades.
