If you are diabetic and your legs get black, will it clear up or does the skin always stay black?

My friends leg is black(sark grey) up to the calf, and he said its not gangrene, but just discolored by diabetes. Does anyone know?

If your friends legs are not gangrene now , they will be .They could get color back if they were to control their Diabetes. I think your friend is in denial.

Here are the 4 key steps to control diabetes:

    Here are the 4 keys:

    1) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph%E2%80%A6 This is a great site for info

    2) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don't need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells.

3)diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can't count carbs so I use Mendosa's Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm

    4) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.

I am afraid that your friend is going to lose their legs. Sad to say. Diabetes is a large contributor to Amputations.

    Good luk to your friend

  • Diabetes does not cause a deepened pigmentation of the legs. Acanthosis nigricans has been associated with diabetes but it will not 'cover' the lower legs up to the calf. I am not able to tell you why this has happened to your friend but it is not due to diabetes. I wish you both the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
