With George Steinbrenner dead, is the future of the Yankees in question? *details inside*?

As many have heard, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner passed away this morning at the age of 80. Now that he has passed on, is the Yankees future in jeopardy? Think of it like the former Blackhawks, before they won the Stanley Cup. The owner died, and his sons took over. The sons did the Blackhawks no good. They took their games off of television, and stopped trying to make the team better. As a result, they were terrible, and they had hardly any fans. Do you see a future similar to the Blackhawks past for the Yankees now?

BQ- Do you think that the passing of the Boss will affect the signings the Yankees have to make in the offseason, particularly the signing of Derek Jeter?

Thank you for your answers.

I feel that it is necessary to ask that please, no hateful answers please. If you don't have anything nice or respectful to say about George Steinbrenner or the Yankees, please just go to a different question. Thank you.

Update:

4-3~ Thank you for the correction, I'm not much of a hockey fan :)

Considering that his son's already took over the Yankees, I think the Yankees future is fine for now till something really bad happens. Both of them have done a pretty good job so far as owners. So for now the Yankees future is in really good hands.

Steinbrenner was probably the greatest owner of all time, I don't think ive ever seen an owner care for his team and his fans the way he did. Sure he had some controversies but you knew that he cared about everyone on the Yankees, and he wanted to win. I respect people like him. You have to.

BQ: It would be stupid and classless not to sign Jeter, he is the Yankees. Even though Im not a Yankees fan, I would be mad if he went to a different team. I just don't see that happening, he means so much to the Yankees.

Steinbrenner hasn't run the Yankees for years. His sons have. And the Yanks just won the world series and they have enough great players that they will be on of the MLB's best teams for the next 10 years, at least. Nothing to worry about right now. BQ-No way. Hank and Hal know George would resign him and they will not let their father down.

You actually have it backwards with the Blackhawks, their owner Bill Wirtz took the games off of TV and was basically trying to force the fans to come live if they wanted to see the team play, when he died his son Rocky Wirtz took over and turned the franchise around. He put games on TV, and drafted well. I don't see that future with the Yankees, I'm sure his family was already part of the decision making and his legacy of spending money will live on.

BQ - No way, Derek Jeter isn't going anywhere.

I think the Yankees have such a winning tradition (continued by Mr. Steinbrenner) that their sons pretty much *have* to keep it going. I don't think they will have any desire to change the direction that the Yankees are going, so I think their future is in good enough hands.

BQ: Possibly, but, again, I think the Yankees organization has a lot of Mr. Steinbrenner's philosophy and "touch", if you will, and I think the Yankees will be loyal to their guys but will also be sensible.

His sons were already in charge, prior to the death of their father. It's not like Steinbrenner died and Hank and Hal were rushed into owning the Yankees. They've been doing it for a few years and have been doing a fine job, they brought the Yankees a championship in '09. There's no reason to think there would be any problems.

Time will only tell...but, philosophies on payroll may change. I don't think their traditions will change, but maybe payroll philosophies may change.

Allot of free agents this year, you'll find out quickly if George had a hand in the last 2 years or if its business as usual...don't be surprised if they scale back payroll and rebuild!!

BQ: no, he's always a Yankee.

This is very important question, but I'm praying that Hal/Hank will run the Yankees the way George would have wanted, and simply keep things the same. If they choose not to do that, maybe the Yankees are better off in different hands.

BQ: No, Cashman has that covered.

    RIP George. We love you.

...he may be right, could be a rebuilding coming; and its time to get rid of some contracts.

BQ: no, how can he go anywhere? thats un-New York like!
