just about all the major makers offer a product in 10 guage. Fear has nothing to do with your question.

Pretty much all the well known shotgun makers have something in 10 gauge. Really you can't go wrong with any of the well known companies.
Afraid? The only people that seem to be afraid are the people who come hear asking "is this to much" or "is the recoil to much for me to handle" or **** like that. Its a mental thing and nothing else.

I have a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12 gauge pump shotgun. The barrels are overbored to 10 gauge dimensions from the factory. 12 gauge 3.5" magnum shells are plenty of power for anything you need it for. Great shotgun, not too expensive, and shoots great with any size shell.

Single shot because it's the lightest and would deliver the most recoil. I love Recoil. There was a H&R 10 gauge single shot 20 inch barrel, 3" chamber, and weighed under 6 pounds. The guy who owned it said he hunted Turkey with it. I still don't know what kind of turkey he was hunting but that guy almost liked recoil as much as me. I still regret I couldn't get $150 together to buy it. Maybe my recoil addiction would be cured.

I have about a mid 80's Mossberg 500 10 guage goose gun. That's a pump action.
I'm not afraid of it. But my 870 Remington Super Mag 12 guage does everything the 10 can and is cheaper to feed, lighter in weight, has interchangable choke tubes, and has less recoil.

The Ithaca Roadblocker was a hell of a 10ga. semi-automatic...
Problems:
1. Ammunition is rare.
2. Ammunition is expensive.
3. It knocks you senseless.
... If I were looking for the most badass shotgun of all time, it would be the Ithaca Roadblocker. Nothing says "I have balls" more loudly than that particular gun does...

there is not much difference between 10 and 12 guage besides 10 being next to impossible to find and more expensive ammo... and if u want a ten guage i dont see how it wouldnt be just for recoil in wehich case get a single shot... new england arms is out of buisness but if u can get a used one they make terrefic single shot rifles of any caliber
