Where do the mails go if undelivered?

Many a times, it so happens that mails do not get delivered at desired destination. In such cases, where do these mails go? Where are they stored? Are they intercepted? Is not it risky? Will any one offer only authentic info? Perhaps yahoo customer care?

If the letter can't go to the person or be sent back to sender then it goes to the dead letter office (relevant to australia) i don't know what happens to it there but I assume they keep it for a while and then somehow dispose of the evidence

that's unsolicited mail and there is not any undemanding way around it. i assume which you have anti-virus utility on your pc so one way of extensively reducing the quantity of unsolicited mail may be to close the majority mail container on your email account.
