What are your thoughts on the Storm being as much as $3.2 mil over salary Cap?

Fox Sports and other media are reporting that the Deloitte investigation report may show that the Storm may have been way over the salary cap. Initially reported as $1.7 million, the overage may be as high as $3.2 million.

Questions to ponder:

1. If true, how does Melbourne or any club recover from this; or do they?

2. Where has the oversight both at the club level and league level been for the past 5 years?

3. How could News Limited not know what was going on at the Storm?

4. How deep does the cover-up go? Were some of the players (over paid) and/or the players' managers complicit with the Storm?

5. Melbourne Chairman, Peter Moodie, does not believe the Deloitte investigation and report to be independent because it was requested by News Limited. What do you think?

I am sure there are other question that could come up in regards to the salary cap breach, but I these questions should get the discussion going.

    My thoughts:

    1. It will recover because the sport is too paranoid to admit defeat and leave Melb and go elsewhere. But it will continue to receive preferential treatment above other clubs in some areas.

    2. The oversight was very effective, because the level at which the corruption was occurring was at the oversight level. The board members who refused to be interviewed or cooperate proved that. This was at CEO and Board level, they are suppossed to be the clubs oversight.

    3. I think it shows that when you use the words News for News Limited just how little they care about the Storm. Look at just how large News Limited is, it is only the very arrogant media that think anyone within the heads of News ever gave a damn about the Storm. They were stuck with them as part of the Super League reconcilliation and simply became a cost. They were never and will never be of interest to News.

    4. The is were the NRl and Gallop have contunied to think the public are fools... the coaching staff and the players involved obviously knew. You dont sign multiple contracts without knowing, you don't get paid without knowing. Managers should be banned, coaches and players should be suspended and administration staff sacked. The timing of it was not a conincidence... the got SOO finished and release this now so it 'goes away' before semi final time and think people will forget its yet another disgrace on the sport.

    5. For someone like Moodie to question a firm like Deloitte's is just stupid. They don't have the reputation they do because they do one sided audits..... if anything Moodie and the other Directors did the club a further disservice by not being involved. If they have information or could hav shown information in its true context they should have told Delooites so. They his for a reason, so they didn't have to lie in a documentnwhich could come back to haunt them on later court proceedings.

The NRL have taken the decision to protect the players and coach, which just implicates the entire code in the cheating.

1st there is no way that baseball may close down for 2 years. That reported i'd not be keen to pass 2 years w/o baseball and with the debt service the Yanks, Mets and some different communities are determining to purchase the hot ball parks i don't think of the vendors may be up for this both, That being reported as a Yankee fan i admit there needs to be a cap yet there also should be a minimum. i'm sick of followers bitching about the Yanks payroll even as their crew is getting more beneficial money in gross sales sharing than they spend usually payroll This needs to be addressed. contained in the subsequent CBA they ought to set the luxury tax threshold to about $150mil and then tell the golf equipment that in case you payroll for the important league gamers isn't a minimum of $seventy 5 mil you get 0 gross sales sharing $. possibly then you quite chilly get the union to conform to rasing the lux tax % severe sufficient to lower the Yanks payroll. you'll never get a cap although

Firstly, they are not the only ones so I am not surprised that they breached at all. It is clear looking at the figures that it started out as only a small breach in 06. When they saw it worked it slowly increased until last year when they just went all out.

If your wife got a $10,000 gift from your employer wouldn't you ask questions? It is obvious the players must have known what was going on. "Oh, thanks for the car, mate. Not sure why you gave it to me but cheers". yeah right.

Storm will recover, they will just have to go through the same cycle every team goes through and start from the ground up. It's more tricky down there because they probably feel they need to remain competitive in order to keep the interest in NRL strong.
