Can cheap pregnancy tests detect pregnancy accurately?

I am now on the 35th day and no period. I took a home pregnancy test yesterday but it was negative. It was a cheap one from the dollar store. Is it too soon for the hormone to be picked up by a test?

I know it's kinda weird, but I had a dream that I was pregnant a week or so ago. I've never had a dream about being pregnant before... i've had dreams about having a baby but never pregnancy. Has anyone ever had that happen?

Update:

Okay I will give it another week.

Update 2:

I know it doesn't mean i'm pregnant, i'm just curious as to if anyone who was had a dream like that.

Okay dollar store ones will work fine. Except: the dollar store ones normally take anywhere from 50-100 hcg to be able to show up positive when first response picks up only 25hcg. Name brands are only good if you want to know early. I suggest waiting a few more days to take another one of you are going to test with a dollar store one again.

Go to peeonastick.com and it will tell you what brands test for what and pics of positives.

To comment on REs the reason why it was negative is because you tested too early and there wasn't enough hcg in your system. Not all women will get a positive days before their period if they're pregnant. I didn't. I kept testing with first response and finally got a positive the days of my missed period. And since you took a test two days later that gave you body enough time to double the hcg hormone twice before you took that test. That's why you got the positive. If you tested with first response that day as well it would have been positive too.

Edit. I understand. It's what ever test you prefer. First response never detected my pregnancies early but always did by the day of my missed period. Honestly I like the digital I'm always afraid I will read the test wrong

Dollar store pregnancy tests are as accurate as the most expensive test. The part that tells you if you are or are not pregnant is basically litmus paper. If there is a certain level of HCG in your urine (which is only present in pregnancy and rarely when a person has certain cancers) the test shows a positive result.

I am currently 5 months pregnant. I took an expensive test two days before my period. Negative. It was actually the First Response that supposedly is accurate up to 5 days before your missed period. I took a Dollar store test the day of my missed period and it was positive.

Bethany- I understand that entirely. My point is, that first response does not necessarily work as they claim. Also, if another test is positive two days later that pretty much goes to show that the more expensive test is not superior to the cheaper test.

I used dollar store tests with my first pregnancy and it popped up positive right away. They've been accurate in my experience 100% of the time. The cheap ones are just as good as the expensive ones.

Source(s): I've also tested when NOT pregnant a few times (lol we all have those scares, right?) and they've been negative when I'm not pregnant and it popped up right away when it was a positive.

I have a friend who was pregnant and the pregnancy tests never could detect the hormone in her body. She even went to the doctors and their tests couldn't detect it either. At five months they were thinking she had cancer or a tumor so they did an ultra sound and found a five month old baby!

Having dreams that you are pregnant doesn't mean you are.

Cheap pregnancy tests was all I bought and they were accurate for me.

the health clinic told me they use the dollar store pregnancy test. if your pregnant it will show regardless of the test. no need to spend $10-20 for a test... the doctor told me that.

also, i didn't start dreaming about babies until i was pregnant... maybe you are. baby dust to you! :-)

it can detect but if is coming out negative i suggest to visit a clinic because sometimes you can only determine is you are pregnant by a blood test!!!! do you feel different?
