Have any of you starting anti-depressants whilst pregnant?

Im Expecting my fourth and final baby in january and im needing to start anti-depressants for issues of which i dont wish to go into, i was wondering if anyone else has had to go on them in pregnancy?

Did it cause any problems for yourself or the baby?

Did you breastfeed or bottle feed?

Many thanks

I was put onto Fluoxetine anti-depressants when i was about 4 months pregnant and the doctor said these were the safest ones to have in pregnancy and that the only side effect that it could have on the baby is a little bit of withdrawal once he is born, ie. crying a bit more frequently as he will be suffering withdrawal from the anti-depressants, but that should only last a few weeks. The doctor was quite adamant that a depressed mother is not good for the baby and therefore the benefits of taking the fluoxetine outweighed the risk of him possible having a bit of withdrawal when he was born. So i went ahead and took them, i did this for about a month but honestly didn't think they were even helping or making a difference so felt it was a waste and stopped taking them, but that's just me personally. But certainly if your doctor has reccomended you have them i would go with it and see how you get on, a medical profesisonal would not prescribe them to you if they thought it was going to be dangerous for the baby. Good luck xx

I actually got taken off of mine when I became pregnant. I am also due in January. I had a small dose of Zoloft due to postpartum anxiety (I have an 8 month old son who was born very prematurely). My symptoms are mild, however, and can be dealt with differently for the time being. If your physician feels that the benefits of medication outweigh the possible risk to the fetus, you will be able to begin taking them.

I had a friend who was on anti-depressants while she was pregnant, and she said that the doctor made sure before he put her on them, that they were safe, and that they did not affect the baby, and she ended up having a happy, healthy pregnancy, and a healthy delivery.

She choose to bottle feed, not because of the medication, but because she could not produce enough milk, but other than that, if she could breast feed, she would have!!!

So, I would say judging from my friend, anti-depressants are safe to take during pregnancy with your doctor's help♥

Using the word whilst on Yahoo Answers is illegal. The police are going to go to your house and slap your face really hard.

Don't be sad, you don't need those pills. It will only hurt for a few minutes.
