Why CCCP and Eastern Europe collapsed but China firmly stand?

The Chinese Communist Party changed some fundamental aspects of China's economic policies, but steadfastly maintained totalitarian control over any nascent assertion of individual and civil rights. Whether China's hybrid capitalism/statism can evolve without the further development and protection of individual property and other civil rights remains to be seen. So far the trade off has protected the ruling class and allowed the median standard of living to rise for the Chinese.

In contrast, Gorbachev tried to change both Soviet economic policy and individual property and other civil rights policies together (Glasnost and Perestroika). Instead of economic development, democracy, and the rule of law, he got chaos and criminal enterprises.

Culturally, Chinese are pragmatic business people. In contrast, Russians viscerally view business profit making as a criminal activity.
