why do peopled not like poodles?

Just like some people don't like my breed of choice the Basset Hound...not everyone likes all dog breeds. For the same reasons people think Bassets are lazy and useless, I think standard poodles most typically have too much fur and I don't care for the standard show cut, they are too 'frou frou' of a dog for me and too high maintenance.

Don't care what other people think, just enjoy loving poodles!

I think a lot of people have a preconceived idea of what poodles are like based on examples they have seen. For instance, the ones that you see that have been dyed pink, or with crazy hairdos, etc. I think that a lot of this stuff makes people think that they are just silly,pointless little dogs. They don't ever take time to get to know anything about what they are really like, and don't realize they are actually very intelligent, and make great pets. All you can do is do your best to educate the people that you run into, love your dog, and not worry about the negative people out there. There will always be people with negative attitudes.

I have met some GRAND poodles! I'm especially fond of the Standards, but I have met some delightful smaller ones too.

I suppose some could think their "show cuts" are a bit bizarre, but that's just a clip job...big deal.

I don't believe in "disliking" an entire breed. I go on the individual dog's personality. If only the idiots who invented BSL could be that logical... *sigh*

I LOVE POODLES! i have one of course :] when my mom told me we were getting a dog, i expected something like a golden retriever or a chocolate lab or something along those lines but when i found out we were getting a poodle, i got to say i was a little bummed out :P but once i got her i fell in love with her <3 :] they are so nice and caring and my mom said the best part is that they don't shed xD i guess people don't like them because they think that poodles are lazy and must be washed and groomed everyday and have those haircuts, but my poodle doesn't have that haircut, she has a normal one xD those cuts are only for dog shows not for everyday normal life. poodles are actually very active and i wash my poodle like once every 3 weeks and brush her twice every week haha. even my dad and brother grew to love her! people just have to learn to love them :D

Growing up, my grandmother had a spoiled, nippy, little poodle that I hated and for a long time I didn't care for the breed.

Then I grew up and realized that not all poodles are like that..and any breed can be a pain..

Many reasons

~They have not been around a well bred poodle

~They do not understand that the continental clip serves a purpose

~They do not understand that these are high energy dogs

~ They think the "pom poms" look stupid and that the dog is born looking like that

and so many more

Me personally while they are not my favorite breed, I don't mind them. I certainly would not want to groom one.

mostly because people have this image of a silly looking show cut wich i know tramautized some people. or they dont like min poodles cause they bark alot. personally i rather big poodles cause i am not a fan of any small dog. i rather them without the show cut just a nice short fur.

I love a standard poodle, but personally I like big dog so the smaller one are not my favorite

I have never owned one because personally I think they look goofy.

I am not fond of "foofy show dogs" or small dogs. But, I will not go as far as to say I hate them or they are ugly or anything mean like that.. Just simply not the dog for me.

My favorite breed is the Boxer. So as you can tell, I have completely different taste in my dog breeds.

But, I am sure they are just fine for you and others that enjoy them.

I like poodles propably never get one because of all the grooming though.
