How much does salt hinder weight loss when dieting?
I'm trying to lose about 20 lbs. I am eating small meals 5-6 times a day, sticking to lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, lots of veggies, and some fruit everyday. Little to no refined sugar. I am practicing disciplined portion control and drinking around 100 oz of water a day. I am also doing at least 45 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week and some circuit training and yoga.
This method worked for me before with great results. (I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months.)
However, I am finding that cutting out salt from my cooking is proving difficult, as I find that no matter how much I try to use herbs and other spices to jazz up the food, I'm still having a craving for more salt.
I know that reducing sodium intake is in theory highly beneficial to weight loss, but does it really matter as much if I'm drinking this much water?

Hi, actually the salt would be retaining the water. You are doing good by not eating sugar though.I just read an article about weight loss here is a paragraph:
"SODIUM RICH FOODS:- It is quite well publicized that sodium (salt) is bad for your health. Sodium also makes you hold additional water so you start to carry excess water weight. By restricting your sodium intake you can lose weight and improve your overall health.

so I would stay on your diet. hope this helps.

Ok, I am gunna tell u a secret. Salt may make you weigh less cuz it stores water which makes you weigh more, but it is still essential.
I work out hard for sports but am not a fan of salt. so theother day i had a three hour practice in the heat and i got heat exhaustion and the next day i was starving no matter what i ate no matter how much i ate and i was not full for one second that day.
It was because i wasnt eating enough salt to help me retain water durring hard workouts. My doctor actual recommended i go buy and consume some potato chips.
NOW I Am Not Saying that you need do eat nearly as much salt as I do but MY POINT is that SALT IS NOT THAT BAD! But too much of anything is.
