Mac disconnected during software upgrade?

Now it won't boot up - after two tries it powers itself off. This is a laptop and it came unplugged during an online software upgrade. Can anyone please help me?? I've searched the internet and found no answer.

You need to start it up from the "Restore & Recovery" DVD that came with the Mac, by inserting the DVD into the opitical drive, hitting the power button, and holding down the "C" key, until the desktop comes up, then use "Disk Utility" to repair the startup drive. Then "Repair Permissions" on the startup hard drive. If that's unsuccessful see:

If you don't still have that DVD, then you need to get one. If you're considering upgrading your OS X, now would be a good time.

    Hope this is helpful.
