Is 2 weeks long enough to prepare for a competition?

I've been skating for about 5 months. I've been taking group lessons and now I'm about to start private. My coach wants me to go in a club competition on august 1st which is only 2 weeks away. She said we can put together a program in my lesson on Monday..but I only have one private lesson a week. So that means only 2 20 minute lessons to prepare. I'm pretty sure it has to be 1 minute 30 seconds long, and in my level the requirementd are only one foot spins, spirals, waltz jumps etc which is easy for me as I'm landing flips and loops in practice. I'm pretty sure I

can't book an extra lesson as my coach is very popular so she has a full schedule. And I'll only be able to practice 3-4 times a week maximum as the rink is 1.5 hours away. There's another club comp on 19th September...do you think I should do the competition on august 1st (to gain the experience?) or just wait until September? P.S I'm 13 and have never competed before

I suggest you do the one in to weeks just to experience the competitiveness and pressure of a competition, but you will definitely have to do alot of cramming. If you have a good coach you should be able to make a program in that amount of time.

But don't get to caught up about the results, 'cause remember this is just an experience, also like some people have pointed out watch all the skaters in your level and higher. But don't watch your competitors that skate before you (it will make you nervous!) only the ones after.

I don't think theres any harm in doing the august one. The thing though is I wouldn't have very high expectations. I'm not saying this against you but I'm just saying this to prepare you. Only two lessons with your coach isn't that much but doing this early competition will be fun. If your coach thinks you can do it then try it, the worst thing is that you come in last and you know what, your first competition, thats not bad, especially considering you only have two weeks. Have fun and good luck. Oh and by the way, do the September one too! Oh and one more thing, make sure you write down your program so that in case you forget it you can look back on your notes the next day to refresh your memory.

You should wait until September to compete, but definitely go to the August competition to watch and learn what the process is and enjoy the skating.

Too many people only go to competitions to skate and never stick around to watch the other skaters. Such a loss - watching others is inspiring for both the viewer and the skater. Applause and cheering always helps skaters skate better.

That's quite tight, how about working on the routine on Monday and then see how you feel about it (if its not finished consider using it for september). I usually find that routines take several lessons to complete, however if this is a club Competition then the standard may not be so strict.
