What would you think of a woman playing in the MLB?

Just to see how people would respond, please tell me what you are thinking?

I completely support it! If there is a woman who can play just as well as (or better) than a man then there is no reason why she shouldn't be allowed to play in the MLB. The problem is, though, that from a young age girls are recruited to play softball. It would take lots of work for a woman to make it all the way to the majors. I would like to see it happen in my lifetime.

@sarrafze... Eri Yoshida is not in the Minor Leagues. She plays for an independent pro league called the Golden League. Yoshida has a good knuckle ball but not enough of, well, anything else. She's 5 foot nothing and 18 years old. There's no way someone of that frame could have the speed, strength and stamina to ever cut it in the Major Leagues, let alone the minors. She doesn't have what it takes to get anywhere near even Class A. That being said, I honestly think a woman could play in the Major Leagues. More likely as a pitcher than a position player, but I think it could happen. Consider that Tim Lincecum is like 5'10 and he's a very good starting pitcher. There are certainly women tall (6 foot plus) and strong enough to generate Major League level velocity, control and stamina. The only problem is that girls grow up playing softball, not baseball. I think a woman could make it to the Majors with talent, practice and training, but it would have to be in baseball proper, not softball. And the opportunities are just not as apparent for a girl that wants to play baseball than there are with softball (college scholarships, etc).

I would be completely open to the idea of it, as a matter of fact, there was a woman playing in the NHL a few years ago for the Tampa Bay Lightning as a goalie. She played in one game, and then was sent down to the AHL for a while. However, she only played one season in the AHL. The idea of women playing a professional sport such as baseball is not as far fetched as it used to be, It's just a matter of finding the right talent, regardless of gender.

Well she better be good and better be able to keep up with the men I mean nobody is going to cut her some slack just because she is a girl this a professional major league sport!

I agree with first answer it won't be for a long time that we will see that happen

maybe never will, you don't see women playing with the men in the NBA you don't see women playing in the NFL or NHL

yeah MLB is probably the least tough sport but is still kinda tough there are many many injuries!

But im sure there will be some women who will be able to compete.

Edit: Why the thumbs down man y'all some haters!

you know im telling the truth, what I wrote is the truth!

It would become as big of a joke as Nascar. A total publicity stunt and I wouldn't support it at all.

EDIT: You're a woman, so you're obviously going to hate my answer...but come on...Women play softball, men play baseball. Call me a male chauvinist pig if you want to, but i'm pretty sure that if a woman could play Major League Ball, Babe Zaharias would have done it. It's not possible. It's like saying, why hasn't a woman gotten into the Boxing Ring with Floyd Mayweather, or why hasn't a woman lined up at o-line across from Jared Allen. Give me a break. It isn't happening, and it shouldn't happen.

I'm all about female empowerment and supporting females in male dominated areas. Yes I am a total feminist BUT I feel like it's going to be complicated.

Baseball just like basketball and football has been male dominated for YEARS. Many many many years. It'll be extremely hard to break that. Plus, a lot of unnecessary and irrelevant questions would come up. For example do they have to have separate locker rooms? How will the fans handle it? How will the team/organization handle it? How will this affect the sport of softball? It goes on and on and on.

I'm open to it but it's gonna be a looooong time before that happens! Just look how many women play on men's high school and collegiate teams. Hardly any if at all!

I can't think of what position she might play and be more physically capable of than her male counterpart.baseball and softball are two different games with many different rules, played on different size fields,so there are no comparable stats and games to use as a judgment basis for current players.

However,if she is as hot as Jennie Finch,I'm all for it!!

*** If I had thought people wouldn't have got the joke about Jennie Finch,I would have said I'd like to see her as a catcher. You figure out why.Lighten up ,folks.****

There is a woman in the minor leagues now. She's Japanese and throws a killer knuckle ball. Tim Wakefield met her and says she's good. I've always said that if women get into the men's sports it will be baseball first. I hope she makes it.
