lost power to outlets, and A/C unit?

I'm not a house wiring guy, and could use some advice. I just lost power to my living room outlets, A/C, and half the outlets in the kitchen, including disposal washing machine and fridge. I reset all the breakers to no prevail, now what?

Update:

Grebbler, thanks, and to everybody else. It turns out, that my power went totally out 15 mins later ( as well as everybody elses) weird that 1/2 the house went out , 15 mins the other... I like the Grebbler theory. Thanks again, problem solved. RC

A GFI is not gonna be powering all that.

It sounds like you lost a hot leg so you no longer have 220v and half the house will be dead.

(houses have 2 hot legs and a neutral)

It could be the main breaker, corroded breaker bus on the panel, the meter connections or the power company lines to the house.

An electrician (many, like me, can be bribed with Chinese food) should be the one doing any of these.

are you sure the breakers are all reset...some can look reset when they are not...turn the breaker off and then back on...

If this didn't work, look for a GFCI outlet that may be tripped....some people will run a circuit through an GFCI outlet to protect all wiring down the line....maybe located at kitchen sink, bathroom sink...two buttons, one will say reset on it, push that button in until it clicks...

If this doesn't work then I'm guessing you lost a neutral and you'll need to call a electrician to repair, not a task for a novice...no offense, good luck

try the main if your breakers are old you might need a new breaker you should call a handy man it will be cheaper than an electrician
