how to arrive at cost of shares?

in order to arrive at the capital gains on shares, we have to arrive at the cost of the shares. how the same is arrived at? (i.e. what are the elements to be considered from out of these: brokerage, service tax, securities transaction tax, stamp, turnover tax, dp charges, education cess, higher edu. cess)

    Your broker's statement should give you the cost basis. You are only concerned with direct costs, not your education, or outside costs like rent and phone. Taxes come later.
