What is the biggest news story you've seen in your lifetime?

9.11,

Princess Diana's accidental death,

The biggest though is President Kennedy's assassination.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

    Y2K...I watched cspan's coverage of the special senate committee on this for weeks. They had hired a research firm to do a study, they had specialists on computers give testimony, lots of "credible" sources and they all said it had the potential to be devastating. I believed my government (silly me) and was in a panic.

    Bought an RV with solar panels, hoarded food and water supplies, the whole bit based on what the so called "experts" had testified about. Sat in front of the tv on new year's eve 1999 waiting for the sky to fall.... nothing. And the gov just dropped the whole topic, never acknowledged they were dead wrong or that they had caused people like me to waste a lot of money.

    The news story which changed my life was the Soviet clamp down on Hungary in 1956. I was 12, and seeing the refugees fleeing their country started me on my future course. Since then I have defended refugees (now put in the same box as genuine and false asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.) I taught Vietnamese Boat people children in Hong Kong; I'm pro-Palestinian and I write appeals for rejected asylum seekers.

    I was working when 9/11 happened. I met my daughter after work in a bar. She went to get drinks and came back with the news.

    After telling her that the tallest building in the world was not in the USA, I said, "Let's hope they'll go it alone this time.' Fat chance!

    Hi, well there have been several, two which you have already mentioned.

    Two incidents I do recall is watching the news coverage of 9/11 and the coverage of Concorde bursting into flames and crashing in France killing all those on board in July 2000.

    Those images will remain forever.
