Anyone know of any good places to visit or live in Osaka Japan?

Hello, 
My friend and I are taking a trip to Osaka Japan on July 24th and are staying until August 10th and we have no real plan for what to do / visit while we are in Japan. I am here to see if anyone can tell me any must see places in Osaka or within a day trip. Also if anyone lives in Osaka and is okay with meeting while we are there to go see some of the local spots / events that would be awesome aswell.

Please leave info on locations in answers and feel free to contact me if you live in the Osaka area or wish to talk further about places to go while we are there.

Sorry, we Osakan have not always much sightseeing spot to show to you.
But you may be lucky. The Tenjin Matsuri festival will be held at July. It is one of the three greatest festivals of Japan.

The climax scene will be held at 25th. The road procession, called riku-togyo, starts at 4:00 pm. The boats procession, called huna-togyo, (and fireworks) starts at 6:00 pm.

By the way, do you know? Kyoto and Nara are located at 30 minutes from Osaka by train. And Mt. Koya is located at 80miutes. (UNESCO World heritage site)
