What do you think of syria banning the niqab?
http://muslimvoices.org/syria-bans-niqabs-school/
On the heels of France moving toward an expansion of its ban on certain types of Islamic dress, in public, Syria recently banned the Niqab in public schools. I think Turkey is also banned the viel in public schools.
I hear lots about these moves in teh West but I am curious if these movements within the Islamic nations upset Muslims as much.
Also, do you all ever notice that though Europe is debating this there has been no real movement in the USa.

It is only banned in universities.
Most people don't understand the implications behind the ban in Syria. The implications in Europe and Syria are quite different.
Its funny that they fund Islamist militant groups. Those Baathists may be ruthless and brutal, but not very smart.
And those saying that Syria's regime is doing this for progress and freedom, well they are very wrong. Read some history about modern Syria guys.
Also, niqab is more of a cultural practice. The hijab is a sign of good faith and dignity.

Turkey banned hijab. France has banned niqab in lower courts. In some states in Germany a hijai cannot teach in schools if she wears hijab. She has to remove it in order to teach. In Belgium they are talking of banning niqab. Spain is talking of banning niqab as is the Netherlands. It's just a plot to eradicate Islam from their soil. As to Syria being a "secular" country... well only Allah (Subhanna wa Ta'ala) knows why a "Muslim" country is banning niqab. It could be that though the country is Muslim, the government is secular/non-Muslim. That could not happen in the USA as we have freedom of religion and if they banned hijab or niqab they'd also have to ban the habit worn by the nuns and the bonnet worn by the Amish women.

These countries support freedom. They support human rights but, yet, they are taking are taking away Muslims' rights to wear what they want?
I pity such "people".
To answer you're question, I think banning the niqab is totally unfair to Muslims and it really upsets me very much.
Just because they feel Islam is a threat, they try to get rid of our ways? Just because Islam doesn't fit in with this modern world, they try to change us?

It's called progress. It's seen as oppressive, these countires have every right to ban it if they wish

I think it's great. Spain, Germany, Italy, Egypt and yes Turkey all have some sort of public ban in place or to be voted on. Hopefully more countries will follow. I saw a poll where over 60% of people in England favor the ban also.
