I'm going to boil some water, Should I fill the Pan with Hot Water to Save Energy?

My room mate yelled at me yesterday, I was going to boil some water and so I filled the pan with cold water. She said I should have filled it with hot water first, that way I would save on electricity.

Well lets see....if you put hot water in your ice trays they will make ice faster....because of the rapid molecule change........Let's see.......if you run water till it gets hot......how much water are you wasting?.......Wait.....your water goes through a hot water heater and that uses electricity and most only have a 25 - 45 gallon capacity........Just boil the water........I Truly think both would be a wash!!! At least your thinking about conservation and that's more than most!!!

The best idea to save energy while boiling the water is to put a lid on that pan. Along with this choose the right pan and take the right quantity of water you need.

Unless you are filling a swimming pool sized pan, it is not going to make that much difference if it is hot or cold water. Just use either and put the lid on the pot/pan. The lid will trap the heat and the water will boil more quickly...

Yes, your roommate is right, i use hot water to boil, takes less time and energy. Salt in the water also makes it boil quicker!

Try boiling only the amount of water you need, that way not only are you not wasting electricity, but you're not wasting water either.
