Who are your favorite LGBT or otherwise queer (reclamation) musicians?

Interesting story: Willmer "Little Axe" Broadnax was an American gospel singer, who worked with a number of influential groups, including The Spirit of Memphis Quartet, in the late forties and onward. It was only upon his death in 1994 that he was revealed to be biologically female, and using his brother's name.

Hooray for Little Axe Broadnax.

    Rupaul. By far Rupaul. It must and shall forever be Rupaul. Supermodel is the best song ever. The original has been taken down from youtube and replaced by an inferior remix.

    Rupaul on what pronoun to use when describing Rupaul:

    "You can call me he, you can call me she, you can call me Regis & Kathy Lee, just call me."

    I found it, I found it.

    Once upon a time there was a little black girl in the Brewster projects of Detroit Michigan...

    I remember reading about that, I think that's really interesting.

    I know it's kind of obvious, but my favorite is George Michael, sure, he's a little on the weird side but he's still a great singer. He's the only man I've heard cover a Queen song and make it sound just as good as Freddie's

    I'm fascinated by "straight" musicians who still become part of and/or identify with the LGBT community and their struggle, such as Pete Doherty or Suede's Brett Anderson. Yay for them and their open-mindedness, too!

    I'm partial to Rufus Wainwright:

    Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) and Brian Molko (Placebo) also deserve mentioning.

    Well other than the obvious choice of Freddie Mercury...

    Sophie B. Hawkins {bisexual}

    I love her debut album, but other than that just a few songs from her 2nd album

    Jónsi Birgisson of Sigur Rós. He's openly gay and even has a band with his boyfriend.

    I still think Brian Eno's in the closet.

    Let's go with Tchaikovsky.
