differential gearing 7.5 ford 79 LTD 351W ?

looking for a 2.25 to 1 from trans - the 4.10 would work but it's if's at 1800 rpm's would kick at 70 mph - 2.25 is at 62.5 mph kick - it's mushroom the piston thing - looking for gas miles on highway - 30 years had this car - die with it not in it

Update:

ratio now 1.75 it is 55 mph law then - now 45 mph = 1800 rpm's

3.5 would be 87.5 mph

Update 2:

ratio detroit locker 4.10 is 2.50

Update 3:

4.10 times 2 = 16/40 divded = 2.50

4.11 times 2 = 16/44 didved = 2.75

    Your question makes no sense. If you don't have an overdrive in that car 2.75 is probably about right. If you do have an overdrive 3.23 or so would be better. You want to have some torque available.

  • for economy you want to go to a ratio of higher than 3.50:1 such as a 2:55:1. the 4.1 that you mentioned is for torque, which is nice for racing but you will never pass a gas station like that.
