I agree with Taylor, no goldfish could survive in that. They need at least twenty gallons. Sorry did not mean to offend, just giving my opinion. But you could get a Betta:)

No goldfish should go in a tank less then 20 gallons with double filtration. Goldfish are messy fish and need large tanks. Also goldfish and other fish in too small of a tank get stunted. Their growth is stunted and their lives are much shorter then they should be. Fancy fan-tailed goldfish need 20+ gallons and comet goldfish need 75+ gallons.
A betta will fit your tank much better then a goldfish. A 5 gallon tank would be better but a 3 gallon will work. Bettas need a filter and heater.

I would recommend looking at something called a "rosy red minnow" if you're looking for an inexpensive starter fish. You could probably get away with having 2 of them in a 3 gallon tank and would make a much better beginner's fish. The downside is that they are often not kept in the best of conditions since they are meant to be a feeder fish and may not live that long. Still, they can be bought at a Petsmart store for 13 cents each.
Also, if you are only looking for 1 fish to live in a small tank, a betta could be an excellent choice for you. They can be very forgiving of the mistakes a new fish keeper can make. They cost more, about $4-$5 at most stores but they are beautiful fish and could live to be about 4 years old. Their only downside is that they can be aggressive towards other fish and you can never put more than 1 in an aquarium or they will fight to the death.
I'm sorry that I didn't give a goldfish recommendation, but as the others have pointed out, goldfish produce a LOT of waste and require a much larger tank or they will die quickly.

No goldfish can survive in a 3 gallon tank. The goldfish that needs the least about of room is the fancy fantail goldfish, and they even need 20 gallons per fish. A betta is about the only fish that would survive in that size aquarium.
Hope i helped, good luck :)

no goldfish can survive in a 3 gallon
fancy varieties need 20 gallons
commons/comets/feeders/shibukins need 60 gal
only things that could live in a heated and filtrated 3 gal tank would be a betta or an african dwarf frog

la la la some people say this and that but what really counts is... you want a goldfish right you defently dont want a comet because it realy needs and big pond or aquarium, but if your looking for somthing small you have to buy the fantail that is bacicly only fish you can get other than bettas so the normal fantail or a black moor.
Thats really the bottom line.
